COLORADO REPORTER VERIFIES NICHOLSON'S STATEMENT --

NICHOLSON DOES NOT CITE ANY MEDICAL AUTHORITY TO

VALIDATE HIS CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT

I have been trying to track this down for some time.  We know that VA Secretary Jim Nicholson constantly refers to helping veterans "recover" from PTSD.

My assertion has been that the use of the word "recover" means that Nicholson thinks PTSD can be cured.

Now we have proof of that.  Nicholson DOES think PTSD can be "cured"...because he said it.

But, the issue of whether Nicholson actually said "cured" was brought to the forefront in this article:  http://www.gazette.com/display.php?id=1309847&secid=1

Nicholson is reported as saying (out of quotes):  He [Nicholson] said a special emphasis is being placed on post traumatic stress disorder, called PTSD, and letting veterans know that through treatment, most sufferers can be cured.

Since this was not in quotes I contacted Tom Roeder, the reporter who wrote the story.

He has emailed this confirmation of the Nicholson interview.

From Tom Roeder:  "The word was 'cured'.  The secretary said it and I reported it."

Now that we know for sure that Secretary Nicholson thinks PTSD can be cured, it puts a whole new light on the new PTSD review he has ordered from the Institute of Medicine (IOM).  Story here... http://www.vawatchdog.org/milcom/secretivevalaunchesnewptsdreview.htm

Nicholson is looking for a cure for PTSD.  He is pushing the IOM to validate that point-of-view...which, by the way, is not shared by any COMPETENT medical authority.

Because, if PTSD can be cured...then the VA won't have to pay compensation.  Plain and simple.
