DISABLED VETS LOOKING AT ZERO COLA FOR 2010

Rate of inflation climbs significantly in June, but overall negative number indicates no COLA.

The news about disabled veterans' and Social Security COLA (Cost-of-living allowance) for 2010 is not good.

Although the rate of inflation, as computed by the CPI-W, went up 1.1% in June, the overall number for the year-to-date is still running a negative 2.1%, and that would mean no COLA for 2010.

The CPI-W would have to rise more than 0.7% per month for the next three months for vets to see any COLA.

Given the current drop in the price of gasoline, that may not happen.

We will keep tracking these numbers as they are released each month.
