Information about the VA
Transformation Task Force has appeared in a number of documents.
VA Secretary Eric Shinseki spoke
about it in testimony before the House Appropriations Committee

We also find mention of it in a
2009 budget document (PowerPoint) ...

Now, a VA employee has sent me
an internal memo that explains a little about what the
Transformation Task Force is up to.
NOTE: If any of the 26,000
VA employees chosen to receive the survey would like to forward it
to me, it would be appreciated.

Department of
Veterans Affairs |
Date: August 11, 2009
From: VA Transformation Task Force
Subj: Big Idea
To: VHA XXXXX Staff Members
1. VA’s transformation into a 21st Century Veteran-centric,
results-driven, forward-looking organization has begun. In April,
more than 16,000 of you shared your ideas for that vision with
Secretary Shinseki and the input was greatly appreciated. Now he
wants to hear your “Big Ideas” on how to get there.
2.
When Secretary Shinseki was confirmed as Secretary of Veterans
Affairs, he did so with the charge from President Obama to
transform the VA. The Secretary established the Transformation
Task Force – made up of employees from across the VA – to help
guide that process.
3. Realizing that you are the Department’s greatest resource for
bringing about real change, the Transformation Task Force is
looking for your input on how to make the VA a truly effective and
innovative Department, ultimately providing excellent service to
Veterans.
4. There are two ways to contribute:
a. First, any employee with a “Big Idea” on how we can
improve the Department – for Veterans or for our employees – can
share it with the Transformation Task Force through a newly
created on-line suggestion box. To contribute, please go to: Big
Idea Suggestion Box. This suggestion box will be open on a
continual basis for your input.
b. Second, an organizational survey began this week that
is designed to be an in-depth evaluation of the way we organize
and complete our work. The Transformation Task Force will use the
results to help identify changes we should consider to ensure that
VA is ready to deliver for our Veterans, their families and
caregivers.
5. A randomly generated sample of approximately 26,000 VA
employees from all levels and locations across the VA have been
selected to participate in the survey. Participation is voluntary
and all responses will remain anonymous. The responses are
compiled into a database and analyzed by organization/function,
not by individual responses. Employees will be notified by e-mail
or directly through their HR representative if they have been
chosen.
6. The survey will be conducted in two waves. The first, for VHA
personnel opened Wednesday, July 29, and will close Friday, August
14. The second, for VBA, NCA, and all staff and support offices
will open Monday, August 3, and close Friday, August 14.
7. Thank you for your support of this important effort. It’s
your chance to shape the 21st Century VA!
