There's been another change of plans regarding the VA shredder "roundtable discussion" to be held by the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.  Story here...
http://www.vawatchdog.org/08/nf08/nfn
ov08/nf111408-3.htm

Earlier today I reported that the "discussion" would not be recorded or webcast.  That information came directly from the Committee.  That story here...

nov08/nf111408-7.htm

Now, there has been a change.

Malcolm Shorter, the Committee's Majority Staff Director, called me (at 1530HRS EST on FRI NOV 14 2008) to say that the Committee will make a feed available.

Mr. Shorter said there would be a live audio webcast of the "discussion."  And, there could be a live video webcast.  That will depend on the cameras and video equipment being put back into place in the newly-remodeled hearing room.

He said that if the video gear is up and working by Tuesday for another hearing, then it will be available for the shredder "discussion" on Wednesday, November 19.

This is great news... and thanks to Mr. Shorter for making this information available.

The Committee's hearing page with connection for webcast is here...
http://veterans.house.gov/hearings/

I asked Mr. Shorter about who would be attending.

He said that the major veterans' service organizations would be represented.

He also stated that VA Secretary James Peake had been invited to attend.  It appears there is a scheduling conflict, so it's not clear at this time if Peake will appear.

However, it is expected that the top two officials from the Veterans' Benefits Administration will be present.  That would be Adm. Patrick W. Dunne, VA's Acting Under Secretary for Benefits and Mike Walcoff, the Deputy Under Secretary for Benefits.

So, make sure your audio and video recorders are working for the webcast on Wednesday, November 19 at 10AM EST.
