REPUBLICAN PRESS RELEASE

April 11, 2008

Bipartisan Bill Holds Potential Fundamental Improvements for Veterans

For more information, contact: Brian Lawrence, (202) 225-3527

Washington D.C. — U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs, said during yesterday’s hearing, on the Veterans’ Disability Benefits Claims Modernization Act of 2008, that it was an honor to participate in such an important occasion.

“Though the legislation still has far to go, I believe there is proper alignment of thought and a cooperative effort to make substantial improvements to the veterans’ benefits claims process,” Lamborn said. “This bipartisan bill is comprised of a number of measures that have as their foundation the collective recommendations of Democrats, Republicans, veterans’ service organizations, and two blue-ribbon commissions on veterans’ benefits. Such measures include better utilization of information technology and an enhanced VA disability rating schedule that compensates for loss of quality of life and loss of earnings.”

Provisions of this comprehensive legislation were included from the following bills: H.R. 3047, Veterans Claims Processing Innovation Act of 2007, introduced by Lamborn; H.R. 5509, Noble Warrior Act; and H.R. 5576, Veteran Claims Backlog Reduction Act of 2008, both of which were introduced by Ranking Member Steve Buyer (R-Ind.).

“I eagerly anticipate working with my colleagues, the VA, and veterans’ service organizations, during the short time left in this session to make substantial progress for veterans”
