Sports Clips' Donation Providing Troops with Christmas VFW “Free Call Day”

GEORGETOWN, Texas, Dec. 20, 2007--This Christmas, servicemembers stationed worldwide will be able to call loved ones during a VFW Operation Uplink “Free Call Day,” thanks to an $80,000+ donation from Sport Clips, a nationwide chain of men’s barbershops famous for their sports-themed decor.

VFW Department of Texas leaders graciously accepted the check in early December from Sport Clips CEO Gordon Logan, who also is a member of VFW Post 8587, Georgetown, Texas.

Hundreds of Sport Clips franchises across the county participated in the Veterans Day “The Biggest Haircut Day of the Year” benefit. The company donated a dollar from every haircut to Operation Uplink, the VFW’s free phone card program for deployed servivemembers and hospitalized veterans. Sport Clips also collected community donations.

An Air Force veteran, Logan said he believes strongly in supporting the military, which is why the hair-care franchise for men and boys has been offering yearlong veterans discount services since 2005.

“With more than 500 stores from coast to coast, Sport Clips and our clients had the incredible opportunity to make calling home on December 25 a reality for our servicemen and women,” said Logan. “I know how important it is to hear the voices of loved ones when you are overseas for months at a time. It’s our honor and privilege to make this a holiday gift for those who are selflessly serving our country.”

“Every day, we get postcards from servicemembers telling us how deeply they appreciate calling home for free,” said Michael Penney, director, VFW National Military Services. “This donation is a wonderful gift for military families this holiday season. We can’t thank Sport Clips enough for their generosity.”

Founded in 1995 by franchise veteran Gordon Logan and headquartered in Georgetown, TX, the privately held Sport Clips, Inc., is a sports-themed hair care franchise for men and boys with 510 stores nationwide. Sport Clips is the “Official Haircutter” of several teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), and National Hockey League (NHL). Sport Clips is also the “Official Haircutter” of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and offers preferential pricing to veterans.
