REPUBLICAN
PRESS RELEASE
February 26, 2007
JOINT HEARING TUESDAY WILL FOCUS ON DISABLED
AMERICAN VETERANS
Media contact: Jeff Schrade (202)224-9093
(Washington, DC) Members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House Committees on
Veterans’ Affairs will meet jointly Tuesday, February 27, at 2 p.m.
Eastern to take testimony from national leaders of the Disabled American
Veterans (DAV). The hearing will take place in the Caucus Room (room
345) of the Cannon House Office Building.
Tuesday’s lead witness will be Bradley S. Barton, National Commander,
Disabled American Veterans. Barton enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in
1966 and two years later, during a battle in Vietnam, shrapnel from an
enemy mortar severed his spinal cord. He was discharged from the
military but went on to earn both a bachelor’s and later a law degree.
He now lives in Oregon.
The hearing with DAV officials kicks off a series of hearings to be held
in the coming weeks. The next one will occur on Tuesday, March 6, at
which members of the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees will
take testimony from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
