INDIANAPOLIS - Congressman Steve Buyer was briefed Tuesday afternoon by the director at the Roudebush VA Medical Center regarding a security breach over Veteran's day weekend.

Two desktops and one computer attached to a medical device were stolen out of the building. One of the computers is causing alot of concern because it has sensitive information on it affecting about 12,000 veterans and their social security numbers.

I-Team 8 learned an employee may have thought she was saving sensitive information on a server, but there were still remnants on the hard drive. The VA is now looking into the physical security and the information security in the building.

"We are working with the IT, they're giving us some suggestions on how to improve our surveillance system which includes additional cameras that will cover all of the entrances to the facilities, back hallways that we have not had covered in the past. We're working with them to develop a stronger security system," said Director Susan Bowers at the Roudebush VA Medical Center.

"I get upset when we work very hard over the last year to put a lot of policies, put law, policies and procedures in place and then still recognize that there are vulnerabilities," said Congressman Buyer.

Congressman Buyer said he's given the VA three years to get the technology up to date to protect the veteran's information. And we're in the middle of that 3-year period.
