ARMY STARTS STRESS PROGRAM BUT LACKS RESOURCES -- Will start training all soldiers to recognize signs of post- traumatic stress and seek help when needed, but it still lacks the mental health resources to treat those troops.
Col. Elspeth Ritchie, mentioned in the story, sent me a copy of the PowerPoint presentation that will be used in this training. First...the presentation tries, in a few minutes, to brief GIs on PTSD and traumatic brain injury (not mentioned in the story). That just can't be done. These subjects should be covered in different briefings. Second...it is just another really bad Army training presentation...just like the ones you and I sat through many years ago. Bad dialogue, terrible actors and a fragmented message will put half the audience to sleep and get laughs from the other half. Except for...a video segment about nightmares. The above photo is a frame from that video. The use of a bloody soldier and the way this video is edited are extremely disturbing and could make it a trigger for those who are already suffering stress. It should be removed! The Army made this on the cheap...and it shows. If we can spend so much money on the war...we can spend a few dollars on good writers, actors and cinematographers to make a quality training product. Story here...
