On Memorial Day we reverently honor the members of America’s armed forces who paid the ultimate price for our nation’s freedoms. These men and women from all races, creeds, and walks of life gallantly sacrificed to serve us and protect the liberties that Americans continue to love and cherish. On this day we celebrate the precious gift of their sacrifice.

Those who made the ultimate sacrifice on uncounted battlefields around the world merit our special respect. But every veteran who has passed from our presence merits a special place in the hearts of those who benefited because they lived. We must never forget the men and women who answered the call to fight for freedom and justice against all forms of evil and tyranny.

I encourage all Americans to take time to thank a veteran for their service to our nation, to remember our fallen heroes, and to pray for the safety of all members of the armed forces of the United States of America.
